Basic cadets are typically not allowed to receive care packages during BCT. However, upon completion of training, they are allowed to receive care packages from their parents and family at any time. The cadet area houses a fully functioning US Post Office that allows cadets to receive mail and packages . Mail is a huge morale booster during your Cadet's time at the Air Force Academy especially during Doolie year. There is always some confusion about the correct mailing address for cadets and preppies. There is old information floating around regarding the use of PAK Mail for sending packages. Pak Mail Cadet Package Receiving closed its facility effective December 19, 2014. All non USPS packages (UPS, FedEx, DHL, OnTrac) are now being received by the USAFA Post Office and not Pak Mail.

According to the MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) between the USAF Academy and US Postal Service the proper addressing is as follows for US Mail:

For Cadets:
John A. Doe
PO Box number xxxx
USAFA, CO 80841-xxxx (*post office box number can be used for the 9 digit zip)

For Prep School Candidates:
John A. Doe
PSC xxxx (insert PO box number)
USAFA, CO 80840-xxxx (*post office box number can be used for the 9 digit zip)

Wait until your cadet sends his/her post office box number. Letters & packages without the 4 digit box number will be redirected and delayed or even returned to the sender. The PO Box number assigned during in-processing will stay with your cadet the entire 4 years.

If you send a package via Federal Express, UPS or DHL, you will need a street address. Below is the correct way to address a package when a street address is required.

John A. Doe (xxxx)*
2360 Vandenberg Drive
USAFA CO 80841-xxxx

(* put the cadet's post office box number behind the name but do not write "PO BOX xxxx")
